This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 13, 2009:
First of all this question assumes the belief that the world needs saving.
So I'll play along with that for a paragraph or two. The world needs saving and us mere mortals are assigned to save it.
To save this planet that was here long, long, long before we even got here. And according to the premise of this question it is now in peril.
Okay I'm done with pretending.
Here is what I know for sure. The world; this planet is not and has never been in peril.
It does not need saving and and will never need saving. The planet is a living organism that is constantly evolving.
I can see how man might think it is in peril: He arrives when it is hot and getting hotter, so he thinks something is wrong or he arrives when it is freezing cold and getting colder so he thinks something is wrong, He arrives when it is cold and getting warm or when it is warm and getting cold. Each time he has one thought: the planet is in peril and we need to save it.
I won't even touch on the economic reasons for pretending we have a shortage of natural resources either. Oops I just said it.
Meanwhile, the entire planet continues to evolve and do what it does regardless of how we feel and what we do to it! Isn't that wonderful?
We are living on a planet that knows it's well being!
Sure we could be a bit more mindful of how we interact with it, but that really does not affect the evolution of our planet.
The Earth will continue to be here long after we are not.
I spend my time knowing it's wellness and appreciating how much beauty and wellness there is no matter where I go in it.
Most importantly when I think of the wellbeing of this planet I feel really, really good .
Life is really, really, good.
